Give Generously to Disaster Victims
John Michael Talbot
Brothers and Sisters,
Peace and Good In Christ!
As we all know by now, the New Year cheer is overshadowed by the tsunami catastrophe and has overwhelmed the relief and development world. I want to encourage all our friends and community members to give most generously to a reputable relief and development agency. Mercy Corps continues to do great work as the official agency supported by our BSC community, having been among the first respondents on the ground in Sumatra. Please read more about their significant work in this crisis at www.mercycorps.org.
I am reminded today that two rival presidents, George Bush, Sr. and Bill Clinton have joined together in the appointment by President Bush to lead the U.S. national effort. If two political rivals can overcome their differences in secular politics in order to carry out this most important humanitarian mission how much more should we overcome our various obstacles to giving generously in the name of God? In the end those of us who follow Jesus must indeed, "do what Jesus would do." I do not think that there is any doubt that He would be on the front lines of bringing God's love to this tragedy in human life, massive disease, and overwhelming devastation.
Please search your heart and be extraordinarily generous in response to this extra ordinary tragedy.
May God bless you in charity, joy, and peace.
In Jesus,
John Michael Talbot
